Emma J. Pegg

My name is Emma and I'm a designer with a passion for set design and illustration.

I've wanted to be a set designer for as long as I can remember - I'm not sure when it started. I don't recall going to the theatre very much as a small child, but clearly when I did it left a big impression. I love the magic of the worlds created before your very eyes in which you can become completely and utterly immersed for a couple of precious hours. I always have butterflies in my stomach as the house lights dim in a theatre, anticipating the creativity of what I am about to see - that feeling never gets old. I can often also get fully lost within the visual world of a film, and wish I could hop through the screen to inhabit it.

Illustration is another practice I have always had a passion for, so much so that I used to write my own children’s adventure stories and spend hours lovingly illustrating them. One series followed a bluebird and a blackbird who, having carefully packed their suitcases, then inexplicably boarded a plane to go on holiday together. Another featured a little girl who found herself transported to strange worlds - once after accidentally getting herself hoovered up by the vacuum cleaner; another time when she was sucked down the plughole in her bath – and all whilst her busy family failed to notice.

I still like to escape the real world as often as possible, and I will be very content indeed if I can make a career of it.
